KEEP HOPIN'

The song that changed everything (for us).

In the summer of 2019 we were out in Wichita, KS playing a show to nearly five thousand people. Growing up in Toledo, Ohio - we never had the opportunity to visit the great state of Kansas before.  Needless to say, we were so pumped and excited that our tour had stopped nearly thirteen hours from our home. God had certainly been kind to us.

As we were finishing up our concert, something we always like to do is meet people at the conclusion of our set. Whether that be a heartfelt prayer, handshake, high-five, or hug. We want to say thank you and also encourage those who came out and bought a ticket to support us. At this time we were closing our performances with a song called "HOPE" - to serve as a reminder of the hope we have in Jesus.

As we ventured back to our table to say thank you to those in attendance, we were greeted by a kind elderly woman, named Sue. This would be the same woman who would go on to inspire our song, Keep Hopin'. She began thanking us for the concert and message - citing by memory some of the lyrics of our songs. Sue then started to open up about some of the hardships in her life recently. Saying how she had been struggling with thoughts of depression, anxiety, and financial stress. Sue then said, "But, tonight I am walking away with so much hope for the future God has for me." We were touched that God had spoken to her in such a profound way, even in the midst of a difficult season.

Sue went on to say, "Even though I am ninety-nine years old, I am reminded tonight, that as long as there is breath in my lungs, God is not done writing my story."

There we stood, in awe of what Sue had just said. At the time we were seventeen and twenty years old... at a loss of words. Before Sue left for the night, we asked her if we could write a song about this. Sue replied with a handful of tears, smiles, and an emphatic "yes!"

That week our tour finished and we found ourselves still thinking about what Sue had said to us. This was the same week that Keep Hopin' was written.

Keep Hopin' was inspired by Sue, the ninety-nine year old woman in the middle of Kansas, going through a difficult season, but knowing that God is not done writing her story. To us, this is where the verse in Jeremiah came to life. "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." (Jeremiah 29:11)

What a future and hope we have in Jesus! And what a gift today is. Let's all strive to KEEP HOPIN' & KEEP DREAMIN' - God's not done writing our story.
